Summary
The Live Audio Engineering Certification Program is a professional training course designed for students who want to build real-world skills in live sound production and prepare for work in concerts, venues, festivals, and touring environments. Throughout the program, students develop a strong technical foundation in sound theory, signal flow, microphones, gain structure, and live audio processing, while learning how these elements work together in demanding performance situations. The course combines theory with practical workflow, giving students hands-on understanding of FOH mixing, monitor engineering, digital console operation, and PA system concepts. Students also learn the professional systems behind live production, including show building, routing, stage documentation, troubleshooting, artist communication, and festival workflow. The program is designed to help students stay calm under pressure, solve technical issues quickly, and operate with the confidence expected in professional live sound environments. By the end of the course, students will be able to manage the full path of a live production, from stage input and console workflow to monitor delivery and audience output, while understanding the responsibilities, technical standards, and mindset required of a professional live audio engineer.
Payment Plan
The course tuition can be split into the following payments:
- $200 — Seat reservation
- $200 — First session
- $100 — Session 10
Certification is optional. To obtain it, students must pass a paid private one-on-one test in our pro studio with their instructor.
Curriculum
Tap each module to expand.
Module 1 — Sound Theory & Audio Foundations
Students build a deep understanding of sound behavior in live environments, including frequency, phase relationships, decibels, SPL, and acoustic principles. This module develops critical listening skills and teaches how sound interacts with rooms, stages, and PA systems.
Module 2 — Signal Flow & Gain Structure
This module focuses on complete signal path awareness, from microphone to speaker. Students learn proper gain staging, headroom management, preventing distortion, and maintaining clean signal flow across analog and digital systems.
Module 3 — Microphones, DI & Input Strategy
Students explore microphone types, polar patterns, placement techniques, and practical applications for live instruments and vocals. The module also covers DI boxes, input lists, and stage patch planning for professional setups.
Module 4 — Processing Essentials for Live Sound
Covers practical use of EQ, compression, gates, and time-based effects in live environments. Students learn corrective vs creative processing, feedback control, and dynamic control strategies for clarity and power.
Module 5 — FOH & Monitor Mixing Concepts
Students understand the operational and psychological differences between Front of House and monitor engineering. The module covers wedge mixes, in-ear monitoring (IEM), gain sharing, and delivering clear mixes for both audience and performers.
Module 6 — Digital Console Workflow & Show Building
This module dives into professional digital console operation, including routing, buses, matrices, DCAs, custom layers, and efficient workflow strategies. Students learn to build organized, tour-ready show files from scratch.
Module 7 — Advanced Mixing Techniques in Live Environments
Students apply advanced gain structure, headroom optimization, and parallel compression techniques in live scenarios. The module emphasizes speed, precision, and consistency under pressure.
Module 8 — PA Systems & Line Array Theory
Students study professional PA system components, signal distribution, line array behavior, and speaker deployment strategies. The module explains how large-scale sound reinforcement systems are designed and implemented.
Module 9 — Subwoofer Systems & System Alignment
This module focuses on low-frequency management, including cardioid and end-fire subwoofer configurations. Students learn the fundamentals of time alignment, phase alignment, and system optimization basics.
Module 10 — System Tuning & Audio Networking
Students are introduced to system tuning principles and measurement awareness. The module also covers modern digital audio networking concepts, including Dante workflow fundamentals in live production environments.
Module 11 — Festival Workflow & Touring Operations
This module prepares students for fast-paced live events, including festival changeovers, multi-band workflows, file management, and stage coordination in high-pressure settings.
Module 12 — Professional Documentation & Stage Management
Students learn to prepare and interpret tech riders, stage plots, input lists, and patch sheets. The module develops organizational skills essential for professional live production.
Module 13 — Troubleshooting & Crisis Management
Focuses on real-world problem solving. Students learn structured troubleshooting methods, rapid fault detection, backup planning, and maintaining composure under technical pressure.
Module 14 — Artist Communication & Stage Psychology
This module develops soft skills essential for live engineers, communicating with artists, handling stress on stage, understanding performer needs, and maintaining professionalism during live events.
